To continue from my last post on the Tata Nano, I’d like to add that I’m proud of Ratan Tata’s effort. It’s just that, I keep picturing thousands of Nanos, all in one colour, filling up every nook and corner of the city. Auto magazines comparing Rickshaws and Nanos etc. etc. But Tata is definitely on a roll and it’s got the country rolling with them. The new Indica has shown vast improvement in the design department. It’s far more stylish looking with a better looking grille and an attractive swept back headlamp cluster. The car is available with a new 1.3 litre Quadra-Jet Common Rail Direct Injection Diesel engine and a 1.2 litre Safire MPFI VVT Petrol engine.
I’ve never really cared for the Indica styling, especially the rear which always has a swollen up look and mainly because it’s a taxi in this country. However, Tata is hoping to get out of that rut with some intelligent pricing. But more so with the new Sumo. This new one is definitely being pitched above the claws of the tourist vehicle business, which is an altogether smart move if they’re planning to reach out to the urban family. Tata have done their homework. The Sumo is definitely a better looker than the old box. To compare it with the old Victa, the new Grande’s approach seems to be completely different. The Sumo Victa was essentially a cheap UV with nothing to write home about, terrible looks, poor family utility. However, with the Grande’s new looks and features, at this point, seem to be the main factor which has taken the Sumo from being a poor utility vehicle to a competitive, comfortable and good looking family UV. It’s going to be interesting to see how the Grande performs with the likes of our Scorpio’s and Innova’s. Forgive me, but I’m very excited about these comparisons. Tata has taken some serious steps here and seem to have found themselves in a very good spot with its pricing, which is cheaper than a Scorpio! Let’s just wait and watch! But, the speculation still continues… Peace out!
